Summary: Irene Smith was born in Murston and has spent all of her life there apart from a short stay in Scotland during the War when her husband was in the RAF. Irene's father worked on the barges and she has fond memories of her days as a child in the area. Irene herself worked in The Sittingbourne Ship Building Company as a secretary both before and at the start of the War and then later for Bowater's.
